I was involved in a motor vehicle accident with significant injuries to my legs and ankles. As a result, I lost all of the cartilage in both ankles. The bone on bone lasted about 2 ½ years until it became intolerable.
What did your pain or other symptoms prevent you from doing?
Walking. I eventually became unable to walk without assistance.
Why did you choose Dr. Neufeld and Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Center?
I was told by the orthopedic surgeon who performed the emergency surgeries that I would eventually need to have my ankles fused. I did not like the idea of walking around in ski boots the rest of my life and began to do research. Total Ankle Replacement seemed the way to go and everyone I spoke with in the DC area pointed me to Dr. Neufeld.
What procedure/treatment did you have done?
Total Ankle Replacement both ankles and flat foot repair on the right foot.
How did you feel after your treatment?
I have my life back. I walk my dogs a measured mile every night. I went hunting in rough terrain in Ohio last year. My ankles do not stop me from doing anything.
Do you have any advice for other patients?
Get scheduled, get it done, and be diligent with physical therapy.
