"On 6/6/2024, I fell down my stairs and sustained a right calcaneal fracture. I went to the emergency room, they did an X-ray on my right foot and diagnosed me as having an impacted, displaced, and comminuted fracture with a 12 mm cortical depression of the posterior calcaneus. Needless to say, I was scared. This was my first fracture in my entire 38 years of life. Immediately, I texted my aunt who is a CRNA at Inova Fairfax Hospital and said “I need an ortho surgeon ASAP.” She recommended The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics-The Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Center.
Now, as I’m sure many of you know, trying to get a same day or next day appointment is nearly IMPOSSIBLE. I am a registered nurse of 16 years and even I cannot accommodate every patient request. First off, the ease of scheduling is unmatched with this office. I called the office and the receptionist treated me with so much respect and empathy (and trust me my nerves were fried at that point) and said “with this type of injury, are you actually able to come in today at 11am with Ashley, PA?” I was so blown away and surprised and immediately said “I WILL BE THERE RIGHT AT 11AM.”
As soon as I arrived, I was treated like part of the family. Ashley ordered more X-rays and then said “I’m going to have Dr. Sanders come in and see you as well.” Dr. Sanders came in and his bedside manner is arguably probably the best I’ve ever encountered. I’m an insulin dependent diabetic with an insulin pump and he took all of my health history into account and tailored my plan of care to best fit all of my medical needs. From time of injury to surgery, it was 33 hours. That’s nearly unheard of in healthcare these days. Trust me, I’m in healthcare. I was treated with such kindness and as a highly anxious individual, I can tell you that I will never go to another ortho surgeon. Now hopefully I don’t need another ortho surgeon ever, but if I do I know where to go. I am in home health and have since recommended Dr. Sanders to my own patients and will continue to recommend him. A broken heel is no fun, but now I am 8 weeks post surgery and am about to be WALKING AGAIN WITH NO BOOT or any assistive devices for that matter. I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Sanders and his entire team! Highly Highly Recommend!!!!"
