Margaret S.

What was your initial medical issue?

I had two torn ligaments in my right ankle, one fully torn, and one partially torn. I was prone to ankle sprains because of this. I also had consistent pain in my ankle along with swelling that never went away from my previous injuries.

What did your pain or other symptoms prevent you from doing?

Because of my pain, it made it very difficult to continue playing lacrosse. The only way I was able to finish my season was with ankle tape with a brace over it every time I played lacrosse. Even though I was able to finish my season at Elon I was limited while playing.

Why did you choose Dr. Neufeld and Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Center?

He was recommended to me from a family friend who has worked with him before.

What procedure/treatment did you have done?

Ankle ligament reconstruction with artelon graft.

How did you feel after your treatment?

I had pain for a day or two directly after my surgery, but after that there was minimal pain. With physical therapy I was able to work my way back to how I felt before I ever hurt myself. Now about three months after surgery I am fully cleared and back to playing with no pain and better stability.

Do you have any advice for other patients?

Don’t overexert yourself after surgery and listen to your doctor and physical therapist, they want what is best for you.

The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics is redefining the way musculoskeletal care is delivered across the region with locations throughout Maryland, DC, Virginia and Pennsylvania.
