I had bunions on both my feet (runs in my family). I’ve had them for years and they were progressively worsening.
What did your pain or other symptoms prevent you from doing?
About 4-5 years ago, I would run often for exercise. My worsening bunion condition made running painful and therefore I stopped almost entirely. Even prior to getting surgery, going on short walks around the block was painful. The ache and pain in my feet prevented me from being as active as I would have liked to be.

I was connected with Dr. Neufeld and the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Center by a family friend whose partner had a minimally invasive bunion removal surgery with Dr. Neufeld.
What procedure/treatment did you have done?
I had a minimally invasive bunion removal surgery performed on my right foot in January 2021. I had the same surgery performed on my left foot in November 2021.
How did you feel after your treatment?
After my surgery, I worked every day on the exercises prescribed to regain my big toe joint mobility. Within 8 weeks of both surgeries, I was out of the walking boot and in a comfortable, supportive shoe. Even though my feet took some time to regain strength and flexibility, I no longer was in pain. As I eased back into walking without a boot, the soreness in my post-op foot went away. After less than three months post-op from my last surgery, I felt great and was back to walking as much as I want without any pain. I believe that since my surgery was minimally invasive, I was able to recover quicker and easier.
Do you have any advice for other patients?
My advice is to get a bunion procedure done early. As a person in their mid-twenties, I didn’t want to continue having persistent pain in my feet. Getting both of my bunions fixed has improved my quality of life because I can now walk around freely without pain. I greatly enjoyed my experience with Dr. Neufeld and the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Center. I found to be Dr. Neufeld very personable and knowledgeable about the minimally invasion bunion removal surgery. The PAs, nurses, and technicians were knowledgeable, respectful, and timely. I rarely had to wait long to be seen for pre-op or follow-up appointments.
Overall, I highly recommend Dr. Neufeld and Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Center. My recovery time from the minimally invasive bunion corrective surgery was relatively quick and I gained an improvement in quality of life from being able to walk without pain.
