Catherine B.

What was your initial medical issue?

I was diagnosed with a failed posterior tibial tendon by another orthopedic doctor.

What did your pain or other symptoms prevent you from doing?

As I am a classical dance teacher, my injury prevented me from fully demonstrating movement in the classes I was teaching, and I was prevented from fully participating in classes for myself.

Why did you choose Dr. Sanders and Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Center?

Dr. Neufeld was recommended to me by my regular orthopedist.  After spending 8 years “adapting” to function without my tendon, I wanted to know if there was any way to improve my mobility.

What procedure/treatment did you have done?

I had extensive surgery and rehabilitation to repair my posterior tibial tendon, and other damage that was present, but not diagnosed. Dr. Neufeld rebuilt my left ankle.

How did you feel after your treatment?

While my rehabilitation has been long and tedious, and made more so because of the pandemic, I am very happy to say that I have more mobility and agility than I have had in over 8 years, and am looking forward to even more in my future!

Do you have any advice for other patients?

I would advise other patients to consult Dr. Neufeld as soon as possible! I wasted so much time accepting the assessment that my mobility would never get any better, and as long as it wasn’t getting any worse, surgery would not improve it. My first appointment with Dr. Neufeld was a day that brought the news I didn’t dare hope to hear! He could fix my tendon and my foot – I would dance again!!
