If you're currently in physical therapy, make sure you're doing your home exercise program! It may seem like a lot at first, especially if you're already seeing your physical therapist several times a week, but those exercises can make a big difference in your recovery.
Your home exercises are specifically designed for you. They help improve strength, balance, mobility, reduce pain, and support a faster recovery. Staying consistent with your program gives you the best chance of reaching your goals.
Struggling to keep up with your PT homework? Here are a few tips:
1. Stay motivated.
Think about your end goal. Whether you want to get back to walking without pain, return to your favorite sport, or simply move more comfortably, remind yourself why you started. Keeping your goal in mind can help you stay committed.
2. Make it part of your routine.
Try doing your exercises at the same time each day, such as after breakfast or before bed. The more consistent you are, the more natural your routine will become, and your exercises will feel easier over time.
3. Be kind to yourself.
Life happens, and it's okay if you miss a day. Don't let one missed session discourage you. Give yourself grace, then pick up where you left off the next day. Consistency over time is what matters most.
Remember, your physical therapist is your partner in recovery. If an exercise is causing pain or you're having trouble staying on track, let them know. They can adjust your program to better fit your needs and help you continue making progress.
