Are Custom Orthotics Really Worth It?

No two feet are exactly the same, so why should we expect a generic orthotic insert to provide relief for our highly individualized issue? That’s just one of the many reasons why we offer in-house custom orthotic creation, because we know that you need a solution that’s as unique as your foot. But because custom orthotics tend to be more expensive than generic versions, many people wonder if they are really worth it? Below, we take a closer look at all the reasons why you should consider a custom-built orthotic instead of a generic insert to help address your underlying foot condition.

Custom Or Generic Orthotic Insert

Here’s a look at all the reasons why paying a little more for a custom orthotic insert is worth it over a generic insert.

  • Treats Your Specific Issue - The biggest reason why a custom-built orthotic is preferred over a generic insert is because it is created with your foot shape and underlying issue at its core. Generic inserts have improved a bit, and you may even be able to find inserts aimed at people with high arches or a mild bunion, but these types of issues shouldn’t be addressed with a one-size-fits-all bandage. Your feet will respond best to targeted care, and that can be delivered with an orthotic built to your specific needs.
  • Not Overly Expensive - Because we can create your orthotics in-house on the same day that we see you, we can keep costs low compared to other custom orthotic builds. Instead of paying another provider to help design the inserts, we have all the tools to engineer and create the inserts at our clinic on the same day, which allows us to offer these custom orthotics at much lower prices than you’ll typically find elsewhere.
  • Saves On The Back End - You might pay a little more up front for your custom orthotics, but you also want to consider how these inserts can save you money in the long run. Custom orthotics are more effective at treating your underlying issue, which can save you from spending money on continued care or more sessions of physical therapy. Spending a little more on a quality and effective product is better than saving money on a cheaper product that may not address your problem and lead to more treatment costs down the road.
  • No Waiting - Some people turn to generic orthotic inserts because they can pick these up at a pharmacy on the same day, but you don’t have to worry about long turnaround times at our clinic either. As we mentioned above, we have the technology to create your custom orthotics on the same day as your appointment, so you don’t need to come back in weeks or even the next day to have access to your orthotics. You’ll be able to take home the individually crafted orthotics on the same day as your initial appointment so that treatment can start sooner.

Custom orthotics are simply a much better option than generic inserts for a number of painful and debilitating foot conditions. If you’ve been told that you’d benefit from an orthotic inserts, or you’re dealing with lingering foot pain and you’re wondering if a custom orthotic may be right for you, reach out to the team at The Centers For Advanced Orthopaedics today at (703) 584-2040.
