Mark Schenkman, DPT, MBA

Mark Schenkman joined the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Center from DC’s NRH Regional Rehabilitation, Orthopedic Outpatient where he was a physical therapist evaluating and treating orthopedic patients in a one-to-one setting.

A native of New Jersey, Mark received a B.A. from Hamilton College of Clinton, NY and earned an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago. After spending many years in the financial services field as an equities trader, real estate investor, and business manager/marketing supervisor, he decided upon a career change and returned to school at the University of Delaware, earning a doctorate in physical therapy in 2008. While in graduate school, he served multiple internships involving the evaluation and treatment of patients.

Mark says, “I was working in finance positions and not happy with what I was accomplishing in life. Due to back problems, I went for physical therapy and was exposed to an environment where I felt I could make a positive contribution to the lives of others while pursuing a career which would challenge me in a vocation that means something important to me. I had had enough of the business world where the pursuit of money was often the end goal. I asked myself: and then what? In the business environment, you have to sign onto a mission that usually does not mesh with your own personal goals. I was looking for a career where my professional goals were consistent with my internal drivers.” In his spare time, he enjoys bicycling, skiing, and tennis.
